Bellydance for Fun and Fitness '14 Syllabus

       

First class was fun -the smiles were gorgeous and that run around thing cracked me up!

  • - Agreed some kind of shoe required on AC floor.
  •   Some people couldn't make it today so no problem joining next week. Just let me know if you want to be on the class email list or check blog for updates
  • Here's the outline and what we did.

Bellydance for Fun and Fitness Syllabus

Shutesbury Athletic Club Sundays 2-3pm 

Suggested $10 per family with a portion to benefit New Shutesbury Library

This course will explore the beauty and diversity of American Bellydance       

Objectives:
1)     To introduce the joy of American Cabaret Style Belly Dance  
2)     To invite grace and ease in posture, poise in movement, muscle flexibility and tone.
3)     To invite and introduce creative improvisational freedom using freestyle structured activities,  technique as means to creative expression and vice versa
4)     To introduce the 4 ates of B-dance. Radiate, Undulate, Isolate, Vibrate
5)     To strengthen musicality and rhythmic complexity

Class 1-  

Warmup to Prologue x’s 2- stretch like a cat, breathe, get in dancing body, let go of outside world, self acceptance and be gentle, each to her own ability.  Breathe check posture reach up down, side to side, feel the music, 4 ates of b-dance- radiate, undulate, isolate, vibrate.

Meenie-Yaba by George Abdo aka- "make the coffee".. and look behind you. Step touch, bounce, shimmy Posture, end pose, walk like a queen, relax and do it again together and alone relax hands. Isn’t she beautiful!? Make the coffee and look behind you, walk, step hip, hip drop, hip lift, hip circles big ones and small, folksy and cabaret.

 Glad to see you- easy to follow, made up folk dance anyone can do. Pedestal toe ending, hands pointed in- relaxed beach ball with slight finger C’s.

Beledi rhythm- clapped, clap and walk, then step hip walk, hip drops, lifts etc 

Stress Dance aka "Big Bad Wolf" aka Alf Layla wa Layla - sung by beloved Egyptian singer Oum Kalthoum with emotion,  frenetic and languid.

Homework- balance book on your head, loosen hips gently with big circles, close car door with hip

Note:  sometimes using new muscles can lead to soreness, use ice, soak in Epsom salts or just be careful for next few days and don’t overstretch.
